Description

This case explores the challenges and opportunities faced by a hospital serving a poor rural market in India. The hospital, Muni Seva Ashram, has developed into a campus of buildings that provide education, health care, and housing to the poor and sick within its surrounding community. As the needs of the local population increase, the ashram campus is looking to generate more revenue in order to cover its recurring costs each year and improve patient care.

Teaching Objectives

After reading and discussing the material, students should:

  • Evaluate how the Muni Seva Ashram campus might generate more revenue.
  • Identify key strengths and weaknesses of the hospitals’ current operations.
  • Consider how the primary needs of patients in a poor rural market can best be addressed.
